      Tooth Pain Treatment

Tooth pain treatment works best when you know what is causing your tooth pain. For more serious pain, a trip to the dentist may be necessary. But for minor pain, there are several home remedies that you can try for managing your pain.

      Salt Water Rinse

A salt water rinse can often be a good starting place for tooth pain treatment. As a natural disinfectant, salt water can help to loosen food particles that might be stuck between your teeth. It also helps to reduce inflammation and heal oral wounds.

Mix 1/2 teaspoon of salt into a glass of warm water and rinse. Do not swallow.

      Hydrogen Peroxide Rinse

Hydrogen peroxide rinses can also help to reduce inflammation and relieve pain. A hydrogen peroxide rinse will also kill bacteria, which can help reduce plaque levels and heal bleeding gums.

Mix 3% hydrogen peroxide with equal parts water, ensuring that the hydrogen peroxide is properly diluted. Rinse with the solution. Do not swallow.

      Cold Compress

A cold compress will make the blood vessels in the painful area constrict and reduce the pain levels. The cold also provides relief from swelling and inflammation. Cold compresses are especially good at relieving tooth pain when that pain has been caused by any kind of trauma to the tooth (such as getting hit in the mouth).

Wrap a hand towel around an ice pack and hold it against the painful area for up to 20 minutes at a time. This process can be repeated every couple of hours.

      Peppermint Tea Bags

Peppermint tea bags are good for when you need to apply something to the inside of your mouth. Peppermint tea bags help to numb pain and soothe sensitive gums.

Wait until the used tea bag has cooled but is still warm and then gently press it against the painful area. Alternatively, chill the used tea bag for a few minutes in the freezer to apply a cool tea bag to the affected area.

There are a variety of other at-home remedies you could try. Speak to a dentist before experimenting.
