      Eczema Ointment

      Eczema Ointment
      by Jenny Roberts

Eczema is a skin condition that results in itching and inflammation. There are several different treatments that can help treat eczema symptoms, such as topical ointments. Eczema ointment may or may not contain certain steroids and can be available over the counter or by prescription.

      Eczema Ointment Options

      Corticosteroid Creams

These types of topical creams usually contain hydrocortisone, which helps to relieve some of the itching and inflammation that occurs with eczema.

Different strengths of corticosteroids are available depending on the severity of your eczema. Over-the-counter corticosteroid ointments can treat mild eczema, but more severe cases may require a prescription from a doctor or healthcare professional.

Side effects of corticosteroids include thinning of the skin and stretch marks.

      NSAID Ointment

NSAID ointments are a type of prescribed anti-inflammatory medication that does not contain any steroids. This treatment is appropriate for children over the age of two and adults with mild to moderate cases of eczema.

It also helps to reduce symptoms of eczema such as inflammation.

      Barrier Repairing Moisturizers

These types of creams and ointments help to keep the moisture in the skin. Barrier repairing moisturizers can help to reduce dryness, redness, and itching that occurs with eczema.

A doctor or healthcare professional can help you decide which barrier repairing moisturizer could work best for your case of eczema.

Remember to talk with a doctor or healthcare professional before you decide on an eczema ointment to use. Be sure to apply the ointments as directed by a doctor or the directional labels of the products you choose to use.

It is important to remember that not every ointment will work for you and, depending on the severity of your eczema, you may need to try a different method or treatment that is stronger than an eczema ointment.
